Parents and politicians gathered at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay to protest for improved paternity leave and parental support. The demonstration was part of a UK-wide campaign organized by Anna Whitehouse (Mother Pukka) and The Dad Shift, which included strikes in 13 locations, including London, Belfast, and Edinburgh, on August 27.

Protesters are advocating for flexible working to be the default setting and are demanding a minimum of six weeks of paternity leave at 90 per cent pay, a measure that would also extend to the self-employed. The Women’s Equality Network Wales supported the Cardiff protest, stating that the UK is currently failing parents.

Plaid Cymru Member of the Senedd Sara Rees joined the demonstration, highlighting the long-standing struggle for better parental leave and the importance of involving non-birthing parents in childcare from the beginning.
