Parents protest and lock Américo Lugo school in Santa María

Parents and guardians in the Santa María community of Tamayo, Bahoruco, protested against the management of Mónica Méndez Matos, the director of the Américo Lugo school. To express their dissatisfaction, demonstrators placed a padlock on the school entrance, preventing access to the facility.

Protesters allege that Méndez Matos has treated teachers, janitors, and students inappropriately. Manuel Medina, president of the Dominican Teachers Association (ADP) in Tamayo, stated that a formal document has been submitted to the Educational District requesting her removal. Medina noted that Méndez Matos has directed three different educational centers over the last two years, with similar complaints arising at each location.
