Parigi Moutong hit by magnitude 6.2 earthquake
A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck the Parigi Moutong Regency in Central Sulawesi on Saturday night. According to the local Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), there have been no reports of residential property damage so far, though damage was noted to the ceilings and walls of the Parigi Moutong Public Works Office.
One fatality has been reported in Bugis Village, Mepanga District. The deceased, identified as 29-year-old Wiwi Putri Thabah, reportedly died of a suspected heart attack during the tremor.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported the quake occurred at a depth of 44 kilometers and stated there is no potential for a tsunami. Rapid response teams are currently conducting assessments in the epicenter area to determine the full extent of the impact.
