Parika Stelling diversion jetty set for completion Monday

Construction of a temporary diversion jetty at the Parika Stelling is expected to be completed by Monday. The project aims to provide relief to truck operators on the Parika–Supenaam route by allowing vehicles exceeding 20 tonnes to safely load onto roll-on/roll-off vessels.

The diversion became necessary after engineers identified structural deficiencies in the original timber jetty, leading to load restrictions that impacted commercial haulage and the movement of goods. In addition to the new jetty, works include upgrading the tarmac on the southern side of the site to allow heavier trucks to stage and maneuver safely.

Minister of Public Works Madanlall Ramraj inspected the site alongside Minister of Agriculture Vickash Ramkissoon. The project follows consultations with Region Two truck operators regarding the economic impact of the previous tonnage limits.
