Parintins and Nova Iguaçu advance public orthopaedic health facilities in Brazil

The construction of the Orthopaedic Workshop in Parintins, Amazonas, has reached over 80% completion, with the project now in its final phase of internal and external finishing work. Municipal officials, including Infrastructure Secretary Albano Albuquerque, expect the facility to be inaugurated in the second half of the year, emphasizing its role in expanding specialised health care for the local population.

In Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro, the Centre for Functional Health Care (Casf) Ramon Pereira de Freitas has distributed free prostheses, orthoses and orthopaedic footwear to patients from 11 municipalities in the Baixada Fluminense area. In the past six months the centre delivered 62 prostheses and 312 orthoses, recording more than 40,000 attendances and 143,000 procedures, thereby improving mobility and independence for adults and children alike.

Both initiatives are part of Brazil's public health system (SUS) efforts to strengthen orthopaedic and rehabilitation services at the municipal level.
