Parintins Swimming Team Wins Eight Medals at Amazonas School Games

The Parintins municipal swimming team made history at the 47th Jogos Escolares do Amazonas (JEA’s) in Manaus, capturing eight medals – three gold and five bronze – and securing fourth place overall in the sport’s overall standings. Coached by Albia Mourinho and assistant Júlio Carvalho, the 12‑student delegation included standout athletes such as Davi Fonseca, Raphaela Paiva, Hector Albuquerque, Gabriel Canto and Efraim Melo, who expressed gratitude to their families, teachers and the local swimming school for the support.

During the same competition, state sports officials Diego Américo, secretary of the Department of Sports and Leisure (Sedel), and executive secretary Márcio Tavares visited the Vila Olímpica in Manaus. They observed the JEA’s events and participated in the “Vila Aberta para Todos” program, which offers open‑access leisure and fitness activities to the public. The officials highlighted the importance of integrating high‑performance youth sport with community use of public facilities and pledged to assess infrastructure needs to boost the development of grassroots sport in Amazonas.
