Paris art market sees major Sèvres auctions and exclusive dealer events
The Paris art market is seeing a diverse start to the season, marked by both major auctions and exclusive, intimate gatherings. At Artcurial, an auction on September 22 concludes the ‘Sèvres, une passion Rothschild’ exhibition. A highlight of the sale includes two rare, crenelated buckets from the legendary Louis XVI ‘mythological service’ made of soft porcelain between 1784 and 1791. These pieces are significant as much of the original service was historically sold to King George IV of the United Kingdom, leaving France to attempt to reassemble the remaining fragments.
Simultaneously, a group of 18 prominent dealers has opted to bypass the main ‘Fine Arts Paris’ salon at the Grand Palais due to high booth costs. Instead, they are hosting ‘Confidentiel’ at the Hôtel de La Trémoille near the Trocadéro. This invitation-only event offers a more private atmosphere, featuring high-quality works such as a François Linke mahogany writing table and an 18th-century lady's desk attributed to Jacques Dubois.
