Paris court sentences former instructor for child sexual abuse

A Paris criminal court has sentenced Mikaël M. to one year of prison served under electronic monitoring, plus four years suspended, for the sexual assault of nine children aged five to ten. The perpetrator was a former instructor at a school in the 15th arrondissement.

The sentence has sparked debate regarding the perceived leniency of judicial punishments for crimes against minors. While this is noted as one of the heaviest sentences issued for such offenses within the Parisian extracurricular sector, it remains significantly lower than the maximum possible penalty of ten years in prison and a 150,000 euro fine.

Similar cases in other regions have also resulted in sentences involving electronic monitoring or suspended prison terms, including a case in Le Mans involving a father and a case in Aix-en-Provence involving a relative.
