Paris Gare de Lyon arrest reveals large-scale arms trafficking network
A man was arrested at the Gare de Lyon in Paris after customs officials discovered 35 semi-automatic pistols hidden in his luggage. The suspect was attempting to board a train bound for Perpignan when the routine inspection occurred.
Investigations revealed that the weapons were counterfeit and part of a large-scale arms trafficking network operating between France, Belgium, and Spain. In addition to the firearms, authorities seized a false identity document, a bank card under a pseudonym, and 2,000 euros in cash.
A subsequent search of the suspect's residence in Melun uncovered nine additional pistols. One of the weapons had reportedly been modified with a selector switch and a high-capacity magazine to allow for burst fire.
