Paris hits record 100 days above 25 °C amid extreme heat

Paris has reached a historic climate milestone, recording its 100th day of the year with temperatures at or above 25 °C. This surpasses the previous record of 98 such days set in 2018. According to data from the Montsouris station, the city experienced temperatures reaching up to 33 °C on Tuesday, September 15, driven by a subtropical air mass.

The heatwave has affected various regions, including Normandy and the Loire plains, with temperatures in southwestern France reaching as high as 36 °C. However, meteorologists expect a sudden shift in weather conditions. A prefrontal degradation accompanied by storms is forecasted to bring a cooler air mass, which could cause temperatures to drop by 8 to 15 °C within a 24-hour period, returning maximum temperatures to around 20 °C by Wednesday.

Météo France noted that while the 100-day mark has been hit, the final count for the year is likely to increase as the summer-like conditions persist into the meteorological autumn.
