Paris Jackson discusses addiction recovery and mental health
Singer-songwriter Paris Jackson discussed her journey with addiction and sobriety during an appearance on Jay Shetty’s ‘On Purpose’ podcast. Jackson, who has been sober from alcohol and heroin for over six years, described her recovery as a ‘superpower’ that allows her to use her past suffering to benefit others.
Jackson attributed her past substance abuse to ‘chronic loneliness’ that began in her childhood, noting that she used drugs and alcohol as a ‘Band-Aid’ to cope with unmanageable thoughts and feelings. She shared that she has previously used substances including cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl to moderate her intense emotions.
To manage her mental health, Jackson currently works with a behavioral therapist to address OCD symptoms. She also reflected on past treatments for depression, including electroconvulsive therapy. Her new album, ‘HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE’, is scheduled for release on August 21.
