Paris Koukoulopoulos challenges government over district heating

Paris Koukoulopoulos, Vice President of the Greek Parliament and PASOK MP, has submitted an urgent question to the Ministry of Environment and Energy regarding the future of district heating in Kozani and Ptolemaida.

Koukoulopoulos criticizes the government for rejecting an amendment aimed at utilizing Greek lignite to bolster energy security and reduce costs for consumers. The rejected proposal sought to allow lignite units to operate outside the energy market to provide a stable and affordable heating solution for the municipalities of Eordaia and Kozani.

The MP expressed concern that the government's current approach is causing anxiety and insecurity among local residents and municipal officials ahead of the heating season. He highlighted that the current legislative framework may lead to increased energy prices, undermining the potential for long-term, clean, and affordable heating in the region.
