Paris public‑transport disruptions hit metro and RER lines in summer 2026

During the summer of 2026 Paris will undergo extensive modernisation work on its metro, RER and tram networks. The most affected metro lines are 4, 8, 12 and 13, while RER lines A, B, D and E will see repeated interruptions, line‑closures and altered timetables. Notable closures include the RER‑D segment between Paris‑Nord and Paris‑Lyon from 25 July to 16 August, and ongoing works on the RER‑E and RER‑C lines into September. Replacement buses and alternative routes are being put in place, and travellers are advised to check daily service updates.

Tourists planning a short stay in Paris are urged to organise a tight 48‑hour itinerary, prioritising early‑hour museum entries, walking routes that avoid congested river crossings and careful use of the metro only when it truly saves time. The guide highlights key sites—Île de la Cité, Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Eiffel Tower and Montmartre—while recommending the official city website for the latest closure notices and ticket‑booking information. Together, the transport works and detailed visitor planning aim to keep the capital accessible despite the construction upheaval.
