Paris police investigation launched after photographer injured by grenade

The Paris Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation, overseen by the Inspection Générale de la Police Nationale (IGPN), following the serious injury of a 25-year-old photographer during demonstrations on October 17. The photographer, Ahmed B., reported being struck in the thigh by a police grenade at Place de la République.

According to his lawyer, Me Arié Alimi, a fragment of the projectile perforated the victim's femoral artery, causing severe hemorrhaging. The photographer underwent a three-hour surgery at Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital and narrowly escaped death. The legal complaint includes charges of attempted voluntary homicide and aggravated violence.

The incident has raised significant questions regarding the use of munitions by law enforcement and the safety of journalists during civil unrest.
