Paris Pride marchers protest far-right rise
Tens of thousands of people marched through the streets of Paris for the annual Pride parade, which had been postponed from June due to a heatwave. The event, organized by Inter-LGBT, saw participants traveling from Place d’Italie to Place de la Bastille.
The march carried a strong political message as France approaches its upcoming presidential election. Organizers and participants expressed significant concern regarding the rising influence of far-right political movements, specifically citing the Rassemblement National. Alexandre Schon, co-president of Inter-LGBT, called on allies to mobilize for a future based on solidarity, warning that LGBTQ+ rights are under attack globally.
Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire joined the march, highlighting that LGBTQ+ venues and spaces continue to face threats, discrimination, and violence. Various left-wing political figures, including Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Sandrine Rousseau, also participated in the demonstration to advocate for acceptance and the protection of civil rights.
