French police mobilize in Paris over wages and resources

Thousands of French police officers mobilized in Paris on Tuesday, September 15, to protest against insufficient resources, staffing shortages, and low wages. Organized primarily by the Alliance Police Nationale union, the demonstration marched from the Champs-Élysées toward the National Assembly.

The union is demanding a salary increase of 6% to 7% and a revaluation of the special police hardship allowance (ISSP), which has not been increased since 2019. Additionally, the union is calling for an annual budget increase of between 300 and 500 million euros to improve working conditions and provide better support for administrative, technical, and scientific personnel.

Representatives expressed deep dissatisfaction following a meeting with Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez in early September, describing the government's recent announcements as insufficient. The mobilization reflects growing exhaustion among officers facing increased operational pressures and a perceived lack of institutional recognition.
