Paris protests see convergence of social movements at Place de la République
Large-scale demonstrations took place in Paris, centered around the Place de la République, as various social movements converged. The protest included a diverse range of grievances, including support for students facing issues with the Parcoursup university placement system, opposition to the rising cost of living, protests against police violence, and concerns regarding climate change.
While much of the main procession remained calm, clashes occurred on the periphery. The Paris police prefecture reported that several hundred violent individuals, described as being “essentially from the far-left,” engaged in direct confrontations with law enforcement, resulting in the use of tear gas. Participants noted a sense of historical significance in the merging of these different social struggles.
