Paris‑Île‑de‑France transport disruptions intensify in July 2026
Throughout July 2026 the Paris region’s transport network faced multiple disruptions. The RATP’s Metro line 4 was partially closed from 6 to 24 July, forcing passengers to use replacement buses and alternative RER lines. Simultaneously, extensive summer works affected RER A, B, C, D, E and several Transilien, tram and metro lines, with scheduled service interruptions lasting until 19 July.
A separate incident compounded the chaos when a forest fire near Fontaine‑bleau in Seine‑et‑Marne damaged cables on the LGV Sud‑Est high‑speed line. The fire caused severe delays of up to six hours on TGV services between Paris, Lyon and Marseille on 12–13 July. Repairs were completed overnight and normal service resumed on Monday, though residual delays persisted into the morning.
In addition, the city of Rouen announced summer road works on major arteries such as the Pont Mathilde and the RN 28, leading to lane closures and traffic diversions throughout July and August.
These combined incidents disrupted thousands of commuters and holiday travelers, prompting the transport ministry to activate contingency plans and increase alternative transport capacity.
