Paris building fire destroys 1,000 square meters of roof near Austerlitz station
A major fire broke out on Wednesday morning at a building undergoing renovation located at 3, Boulevard de l’Hôpital, adjacent to the Gare d’Austerlitz in Paris. The blaze destroyed approximately 1,000 square meters of roofing and spread to parts of the fourth and final floor.
Approximately 100 firefighters and 30 vehicles were deployed to combat the flames, which produced thick black smoke visible across the capital. Emergency services utilized aerial ladder trucks and specialized firefighting robots to manage the situation. The building, described as an annex to the station, was intended to house the headquarters for EssilorLuxottica.
No injuries or missing persons were reported, as construction workers were evacuated from the site before the fire intensified. Authorities confirmed that the fire did not impact train traffic, station entrances, or the operations of the nearby Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
