Paris Saint-Germain fined 2.7 million euros for gender equality failures

The Paris Administrative Court has upheld a fine of approximately 2.7 million euros against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for failing to meet professional gender equality standards. The penalty, totaling 2,728,468 euros, was originally imposed by the Île-de-France labor inspectorate in March 2024.

The sanction stems from three consecutive years of insufficient results on the professional equality index, which measures disparities in pay, promotions, and internal increases. A primary issue identified was the lack of female representation among the company’s ten highest earners.

PSG contested the penalty, arguing that the high salaries of male professional footballers mechanically skew the index and limit the club’s ability to influence the metric through standard HR policies. However, the court rejected this argument, stating that allowing such a distinction would undermine the purpose of the index. The club maintains it has been in compliance with its obligations since 2023.
