Paris Saint-Germain groundskeeper faces potential dismissal
Jonathan Calderwood, the head groundskeeper at Paris Saint-Germain, is facing potential dismissal after thirteen years of service. The scrutiny follows the poor condition of the pitch at the Parc des Princes.
During the Ligue 1 season opener, the club was forced to move its match against Rennes to Brittany because the playing surface was deemed unfit for football. The match ended in a 2-2 draw, and Paris Saint-Germain was fined €150,000. The club management has attributed the turf issues to the extreme heatwave that affected France in late August.
This development comes after the Parc des Princes fell out of the top three rankings for Ligue 1 playing surfaces for the first time in decades. Calderwood, a specialist in sports turf science, has been called to club offices to discuss his future.
