Vietnam and France deepen strategic partnership through major industrial and technology agreements

During an official visit to France in September 2026, Vietnamese President Tô Lâm and French President Emmanuel Macron moved to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations. The visit included participation in a Space Summit in Paris, where President Tô Lâm proposed a “Space for Development and Resilience” network.

Significant economic and industrial agreements were reached, including Vietravel Airlines signing a deal to purchase 50 Airbus aircraft (20 A220 and 30 A321 models), with deliveries expected to begin in 2029. Additionally, Vietnam Airlines signed an MOU for Airbus A350-900 aircraft. In the healthcare sector, Sanofi and VNVC announced plans to produce three new-generation vaccines—6-in-1, seasonal flu, and meningococcal—within Vietnam.

Other key cooperation agreements include satellite Earth observation, essential minerals, and the establishment of a Railway Technology School under the University of Transport Technology. Defense and security cooperation was also reinforced through agreements on UN peacekeeping and civil security. The leaders emphasized transitioning from simple trade to high-tech industrial partnerships and strengthening supply chains.
