Paris to file complaints over hate speech targeting Pride

The City of Paris has announced plans to file criminal complaints following a wave of homophobic and transphobic comments on social media. The hateful remarks were directed at posts regarding the Marche des Fiertés (Pride March), which is scheduled to take place in the French capital on October 3, 2026.

According to city administration officials, the comments also contained racist and Islamophobic messages. The legal action aims to identify the anonymous authors of these posts. While social media platforms have the ability to delete content or suspend accounts, the city is pursuing criminal investigations to determine individual responsibility.

Under French law, public insults and incitement to hatred or discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, origin, or religion can be prosecuted. Authorities must still determine if the specific wording and context of the posts meet the legal criteria for these offenses.
