Paris to invest €200 million in cycling infrastructure

Paris has announced the ‘Plan Vélo’, a major infrastructure initiative investing €200 million to expand its cycling network by 2032. The project aims to create safer, continuous connections to accommodate the city's growing number of cyclists.

Key components of the plan include the construction of 140 kilometers of new cycle paths and the conversion of 220 kilometers of one-way streets to allow two-way cycling. Additionally, 420 intersections will be redesigned to improve safety. To address traffic violations, the city will deploy more police officers to monitor motorized vehicles and protect pedestrians and cyclists.

Since 2020, bicycle usage in Paris has increased by 47 percent, with one in ten residents now commuting to work by bike. The city currently maintains 454 kilometers of dedicated cycle paths, part of a broader network totaling approximately 1,600 kilometers when including marked lanes.
