Park City officials debate Bonanza Park development proposal

The Park City Planning Commission is reviewing a development proposal for a five-acre municipal site in Bonanza Park, a project that has sparked significant community debate. The development, a partnership between the Park City municipal government and Brinshore Development, proposes approximately 106 rental units, including 88 income-restricted units, alongside 30,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, and nonprofit arts space. The plan also includes a childcare center, an amphitheater, and underground parking.

Public opposition to the current density of the project is substantial. A local poll indicated that over 80% of respondents preferred either preserving the site as open space or pursuing a lower-density development. Additionally, the community group PLACE PC submitted a petition with 2,399 signatures opposing the proposal in its current form. While some city councilors have expressed support for the project, citing the need for housing and the use of tourism tax funds, critics argue the land should be dedicated to park space instead.
