Park Geon-roung to debut as K-pop artist Baby Shark Boy

Park Geon-roung, the performer who gained global recognition as the child dancer in the 2016 ‘Baby Shark Dance’ video, is making his K-pop debut. Now 17 years old, he will perform under the stage name ‘Baby Shark Boy’.

His debut single, titled ‘WAVE’, is scheduled for release on August 20. The synth-pop track features Joohoney, a rapper and producer from the group Monsta X, and includes elements of the original ‘Baby Shark’ hook. Park co-wrote the lyrics for the song, which explores his experience returning to the public eye a decade after the original video became a global phenomenon.

The original Pinkfong video has amassed over 17 billion views on YouTube, making it the most-watched video in the platform's history. Pinkfong has described this release as a one-off artist project rather than a traditional K-pop idol debut.
