Park Geonroung debuts as K-pop artist Baby Shark Boy

Park Geonroung, the child actor featured in the YouTube video ‘Baby Shark Dance’, has debuted as a K-pop artist under the stage name Baby Shark Boy. The original video, released by Pinkfong in 2016, has amassed over 17.2 billion views, making it the most-watched video in YouTube history.

At 17 years old, Park released his first solo single, ‘WAVE’, on August 20. The track is an electropop song with trap influences that features the familiar ‘Baby Shark’ melody in its opening seconds. The single includes a collaboration with Joohoney, a member of the group Monsta X.

Park, who co-wrote the lyrics, aims to use this debut to showcase his own voice, as the original viral video did not feature his singing. He described the transition as a way to move from his childhood identity into a new phase of life, utilizing the global recognition of his early work to build his new musical career.
