Park Geun-hye visits Gumi to honor father and nurses sent to Germany

Former President Park Geun-hye visited Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, to commemorate the 47th anniversary of her father Park Chung-hee’s passing. During her visit, she attended a welcome dinner for 91 nurses who were dispatched to Germany 60 years ago to support South Korea’s economic development.

In her remarks, Park expressed deep gratitude to the nurses, stating that their sacrifices and hard work in a foreign land served as the foundation for South Korea’s transition into a developed nation. She noted that their patriotism and dedication to ensuring future generations would not inherit poverty helped build the country.

Park also referenced her father’s legacy, noting his singular focus on creating a prosperous nation. She emphasized the importance of national unity, suggesting that the collective strength used to overcome past crises remains part of the nation’s DNA and should be used to build a more hopeful South Korea.
