Park Hang‑seo resigns as KFA vice president after South Korea's early World Cup exit

Park Hang‑seo, one of four vice presidents of the Korea Football Association (KFA), announced his resignation following South Korea’s elimination in the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. The team finished third in Group A with one win (2‑1 over Czech Republic) and two 0‑1 defeats to Mexico and South Africa, failing to reach the knockout round.

Park, who served as the delegation chief and team manager at the tournament, issued a public apology, saying he accepted responsibility for the disappointing performance. His departure comes after head coach Hong Myung‑bo also stepped down and after KFA president Chung Mong‑gyu hinted at leaving his post.

Having previously led the Vietnamese national team to regional success, Park will move to Thailand to take charge of the Thai League 1 club Kanchanaburi Power. His resignation reflects a broader wave of accountability within the KFA after the World Cup failure.
