Park Hyung-ryong proposes bipartisan council for Daegu development

Park Hyung-ryong, the Daegu City Committee Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, has publicly proposed the formation of a bipartisan, government-party consultative body with Daegu Mayor Chu Kyung-ho. The proposal aims to create a regular communication framework to secure national budget allocations and facilitate the relocation of public institutions to the region.

During a forum held on October 21, Park emphasized the need to consolidate regional strength to address major local issues. He advocated for full national government funding for the construction of the National Musical Complex, supporting Mayor Chu’s stance against local matching funds. Regarding the TK (Daegu-Gyeongbuk) administrative integration, Park suggested prioritizing practical cooperation in industry and tourism to build resident confidence before proceeding with full integration.

Addressing future political developments, Park expressed his desire for former Prime Minister Kim Bu-gyeom to run in the 2028 general elections in Daegu. He also touched upon the potential for a mayoral by-election depending on the outcome of Mayor Chu’s ongoing legal proceedings.
