Park Jeong-hyeon takes helm of Presidential Committee on Local Era

Park Jeong-hyeon has officially assumed office as the chairperson of the Presidential Committee on Local Era. During her inauguration ceremony, she emphasized a strategic focus on the ‘5-pole 3-special’ balanced growth model to mitigate the concentration of resources in the Seoul metropolitan area.

Park outlined plans to expand the authority and financial resources of local governments, allowing them to establish and execute their own growth strategies. Key objectives include the relocation of public institutions to regional areas and the completion of the administrative capital. She aims to link industrial development with job creation, increased resident income, and improved living conditions, including education, healthcare, and housing.

To achieve these goals, Park intends to promote supra-regional cooperation that connects industries, talent, and infrastructure across different regions. She also stressed the importance of administrative decentralization and ensuring that the voices of local residents and basic local governments are reflected in national policy.
