Park Jin-young to testify at South Korean parliamentary audit
South Korea's National Assembly Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee has reached a bipartisan agreement to summon Park Jin-young, the producer and CEO of JYP Entertainment, as a witness for the upcoming parliamentary audit on October 7.
Park serves as the co-chairman of the presidential Popular Culture Exchange Committee. The decision follows allegations regarding the management of large-scale project budgets and concerns that JYP Entertainment filed for exclusive trademarks on a major government-led concert project, ‘Phenomenon’.
Representative Bae Hyun-jin of the People Power Party raised questions regarding Park's compensation, noting that while he described his role as ‘unpaid volunteer work’, he received approximately 20 million won in performance expenses between November last year and August this year, alongside support for business cards and overseas travel staff. The committee noted that Park expressed a strong willingness to appear in person to clarify these issues.
