Park Soo-hong apologizes for flight delay caused by family disembarkation request

South Korean entertainer Park Soo-hong has issued a public apology following a controversy involving a flight delay on a Korean Air service from Incheon to Guam. The incident occurred on August 23 when Park’s young daughter began crying inconsolably shortly after boarding. In a moment of panic, Park requested to disembark to avoid disturbing other passengers.

Following the request, airline staff initiated the mandatory procedure of unloading the family's checked luggage. However, after the child calmed down, Park requested to reboard. The subsequent process of reloading the luggage and conducting necessary security checks resulted in a departure delay of approximately 70 minutes for the flight, which carried roughly 200 passengers.

While some online critics raised allegations of celebrity preferential treatment, Korean Air stated that they followed standard protocols for voluntary disembarkation. Park attributed the incident to his “ignorance” regarding aviation security and baggage procedures, stating he did not realize the significant time required to reverse the disembarkation process. Legal experts noted that while the incident does not constitute a criminal offense or illegal preferential treatment, it highlights the complexities of aviation security and the potential for significant operational disruptions caused by sudden changes in passenger status.
