Parker Cove residents risk lease loss for defying wildfire evacuation

An evacuation order was issued on August 1 for the Okanagan Indian Band Reserve No. 1, including the Parker Cove development, after the Bradley Creek wildfire destroyed hundreds of homes. The order remains in force as crews continue suppression efforts.

Parker Cove Properties Limited Partnership warned that any resident who refuses to evacuate will be deemed in breach of their sublease, allowing the partnership to terminate the lease immediately. The letter said non‑compliance also blocks the BC Wildfire Service from applying fire retardant and endangers nearby communities. RCMP officers and OKIB staff are conducting patrols to enforce the order, and re‑entry by boat is also considered a serious breach.

The warning emphasizes that even a few individuals remaining in the development could elevate risk for the entire area and impede aerial firefighting operations.
