Parker Mitchell, 11, dies in New York go-kart accident

An 11-year-old boy, Parker Mitchell of Greece, New York, died following a go-kart accident in Darien, New York. The incident occurred last Sunday around 2:30 p.m. while Mitchell was driving the vehicle with his 8-year-old sister, Teagan.

Authorities reported that the go-kart overturned and rolled into a nearby pond, where the vehicle landed on top of Mitchell and pinned him underwater. First responders extracted the boy from the pond and transported him to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he later passed away. His sister was able to escape the wreck and received medical treatment at the scene.

In an obituary, Mitchell’s family described him as a young athlete who played youth football and baseball, noting his “curious spirit and a wonderful sense of adventure.” He was scheduled to begin middle school in a few days. A fundraiser has been established by friends of the family to support them following the tragedy.
