Parkes Shire Council named Fleet of the Year finalist
Parkes Shire Council has been named a finalist in the Fleet of the Year category for the inaugural 2026 Fleet News Group Awards. The council manages a diverse fleet of 550 assets across approximately 5,000 square kilometres using a comprehensive management framework.
The council utilizes TechnologyOne dashboards and telematics to monitor vehicle and plant utilization, maintenance, and operating costs. This data-driven approach supports informed decisions regarding asset replacement and procurement, while also driving improvements in driver behavior and reducing vehicle idling. Notably, GPS data is used to identify potential potholes across the shire’s road network.
To maintain high availability, the council employs an in-house maintenance operation that combines digital work orders with visual planning. Service requirements are tailored to specific asset types based on dates, kilometres, or machine hours. The workshop utilizes a Lean-style system where parts are prepared in labeled tubs and jobs are tracked on visual boards to coordinate maintenance around operational needs and weather conditions.
