Parking fees increase in Schwerin and Mülheim
Several German cities have implemented significant increases in parking fees. In Schwerin, the Marienplatz-Galerie parking garage introduced new rates at the end of August. The previously free first half-hour now costs 1 Euro, and the daily and night tariffs have been abolished. For the first two hours, the cost is 1 Euro per hour, with subsequent hours costing 1.50 Euro. Notably, payments at this location remain restricted to cash only.
In Mülheim, parking costs in the city center have risen as part of municipal consolidation measures. For many visitors, costs have increased by approximately 30 percent, with hourly rates on public spaces rising from 1.50 Euro to 2 Euro. The city administration expects these changes to generate over 500,000 Euro in additional annual revenue to help address municipal debt. While the first 15 minutes remain free, the structure for longer stays has become more expensive compared to previous rates.
