Parking revenue and usage trends reported in Brazilian municipalities
In Ubatuba, the Municipal Urban Development Company (Emdurb) reported a 136.3% increase in the use of 'Zona Azul' rotary parking systems during the October 12 holiday period compared to 2025. A total of 5,621 parking permits were sold between October 9 and 12 for areas including Avenida Iperoig, the Itaguá region, and 18 beaches. Emdurb President Carla Ballio noted that the increased vehicle flow stimulates local commerce and tourism.
In Araras, Councilman Lúcio Casa Bela has filed a formal inquiry regarding the transparency and revenue distribution of the city's rotary parking system. The inquiry follows reports of allegedly abusive charges and seeks to clarify how much revenue has been collected by the concessionaire, Área Azul Central Park Ltda., and how much has been transferred to public coffers. A 2022 contract estimates a total revenue of R$ 12.37 million over ten years, with a minimum required transfer of 10% to the City Hall.
