Parking shortages and urban management issues affect Mostar and Zagreb
Urban centers in Mostar and Zagreb are facing significant challenges regarding public parking availability and management.
In Mostar, the increasing number of vehicles has led to severe congestion, particularly during the tourist season. While the city has approximately 52,000 registered vehicles, there are only about 5,000 parking spaces managed by Mostar Parking. Although a 2023 plan proposed the construction of nine public garages to add 3,500 spaces, implementation has faced delays. To mitigate current issues, the city has begun installing parking sensors to help drivers locate available spots more efficiently.
In Zagreb, residents in the Trnje district have expressed frustration following the renovation of city office buildings on Ulica grada Vukovara. The installation of a ramp has restricted access to public parking spaces, repurposing them for official municipal vehicles, including communal and traffic police. Local council members have criticized the decision, noting that similar issues were resolved under previous administrations, while city officials maintain the changes are necessary to support the infrastructure of the offices moving into the area.
