Parks Canada Announces Full Trent‑Severn Waterway Opening and $47.8 Million Wildfire Funding

Parks Canada said it expects the Trent‑Severn Waterway National Historic Site to be fully open to navigation on Friday, May 29, 2026, weather permitting. The agency warned that some sections still have higher‑than‑average flows, debris and possibly displaced navigation aids, and urged boaters, paddlers and swimmers to exercise caution around lockstations that remain closed.

The government also announced a $47.8 million investment over five years in Parks Canada’s National Fire Management Program. The funding will enhance wildfire preparedness, response and risk‑reduction measures, including equipment, personnel readiness and proactive actions such as prescribed burns and vegetation management across federal lands and historic sites.
