Parks Canada completes $34.6M wildfire equipment hub in Banff

Parks Canada has announced the substantial completion of a $34.6 million National Fire Equipment Cache located in Banff National Park, Alberta. The facility is designed to serve as a centralized storage and deployment hub for specialized wildfire management equipment used across federally administered lands.

The strategic investment aims to enhance the agency’s ability to respond rapidly to wildfires that threaten lives, infrastructure, and ecological health. Equipment housed at the cache will be maintained in a state of constant operational readiness for quick mobilization.

While the hub primarily supports Parks Canada operations across approximately 350,000 square kilometers of federal Crown land, the resources can also be shared with provincial and territorial fire agencies through the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre upon request. This initiative comes as increasing wildfire risks driven by climate change put greater pressure on emergency responders and communities.
