Parkstein voters reject withdrawal from citizen energy cooperative
In a recent referendum, the municipality of Parkstein voted to maintain its involvement in the citizen energy cooperative, Bürgerenergie Parkstein eG. Approximately 61 percent of voters rejected a proposal to withdraw the municipality from the cooperative, with 812 votes cast against the withdrawal compared to 510 in favor.
The decision ensures that the municipality continues to hold a 90 percent stake in the cooperative, which is currently planning the installation of three wind turbines at Eichentratt. Mayor Reinhard Sollfrank expressed relief at the outcome, stating that the result allows five years of work to continue.
The initiative seeking the withdrawal, “Windkraftfreie Heimat Parkstein,” expressed disappointment with the result but stated they would accept the outcome while continuing to monitor the process. The group had campaigned against the wind turbines and the municipality's financial involvement in the project.
