Parkstetten council plans new retail site following EDEKA closure

The Parkstetten municipal council is working to secure local food supplies following the announcement that the existing EDEKA supermarket at Rathausplatz will close on November 30, 2026. The closure is attributed to economic and organizational reasons, specifically inadequate sales space, high renovation needs, and recurring technical issues with refrigeration.

To address this, the council has moved forward with a resolution to amend the land-use plan and establish a new development plan for a large-scale retail special area. The proposed site for a replacement building is located at the town entrance on Straubinger Straße, chosen for its visibility and transport links. However, construction is contingent upon the completion of flood protection measures in the Parkstetten-Reibersdorf polder area, managed by the state of Bavaria.
