Parksville, BC Issues Cougar Warning After Livestock Deaths

The City of Parksville, British Columbia, announced a cougar alert after two livestock were killed near Shelly Road, Stanford Avenue East and west of Martindale Road. The British Columbia Conservation Officer Service is monitoring the situation and has advised residents and nearby campgrounds and golf courses to take precautions.

Officials urged people to remain calm, make themselves look large, keep eye contact, travel in groups, carry bear spray and keep pets leashed. They also provided detailed guidelines on how to avoid encounters and what to do if a cougar is sighted.
