Parlasur plans meeting in Tierra del Fuego to support Malvinas claim

The Mercosur Parliament (Parlasur) is planning to convene its Board of Directors in Tierra del Fuego between late October and early November. The meeting aims to demonstrate regional support for Argentina's sovereignty claim over the Malvinas Islands amidst ongoing tensions with the United Kingdom.

The initiative was proposed by Parlasur President Rodrigo Gamarra of Paraguay and has received support from his four vice presidents representing Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, and Uruguay. Alejandro Deanes, a representative from Tierra del Fuego, is coordinating the project. The meeting is intended to be held in collaboration with the Commission on International, Interregional, and Strategic Planning Affairs.

While the proposal has broad regional backing across various political spectrums, its final execution depends on a complex continental schedule, including upcoming elections in Brazil.
