Parliament of Catalonia approves acquisition proposal for Ca l’Ardiaca

The Parliament of Catalonia has approved a proposal by the Junts party to allow the Generalitat to acquire the Ca l’Ardiaca palace in Tarragona. The move involves exercising the right of first refusal or retraction under the Catalan cultural heritage law.

The initiative aims to prevent the degradation of the medieval palace, which is considered a Bien Cultural d’Interès Nacional, and to integrate it into the public heritage after decades of failed private projects. While the agreement was reached, the PSC-PSOE party voted against the measure, despite previously supporting the possibility of establishing a National Parador at the site.

Separately, the Catalan real estate sector has expressed criticism regarding a different legislative proposal aimed at curbing speculative housing purchases. Industry representatives argue that the law targets consequences rather than the structural deficit of housing supply and may discourage investments in building rehabilitation.
