Parliamentary Committee Presents Six Reports on Indian Public Enterprises

On 6 August, the Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises submitted six reports to the Lok Sabha. The reports comprise one comprehensive investigation, one horizontal review and four action‑taken reports covering entities such as NHPC Limited, BSNL’s Wi‑Fi hotspot audit, REC Limited, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited and various petroleum and natural‑gas enterprises.

The committee, chaired by Baijayant Jay Panda, urged expansion of insurance coverage to achieve the goal of “insurance for all by 2047” and called for digital reforms to make affordable insurance products widely available. It noted a rise in its output, delivering 12 reports in 2024‑25 and 18 in 2025‑26, with record‑day submissions of eight and eleven reports respectively. For the 2026‑27 cycle, 21 topics were selected, including aviation, railways, coal, renewable‑energy investment and the use of artificial intelligence in government firms. Future deep‑dive investigations will target ONGC Videsh Limited, NewSpace India Limited and Cochin Shipyard Limited.
