Pearson airport gold heist trial begins for Parmpal Sidhu
A trial is beginning in Brampton, Ontario, for Parmpal Sidhu, who is accused of involvement in a massive 2023 gold heist at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. Sidhu faces charges of theft over $5,000 and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
The investigation, known as Project 24K, revealed that approximately 6,600 gold bars weighing over 400 kilograms—valued at more than $20 million—were stolen. The gold and foreign currency had been ordered from a refinery in Zurich, Switzerland, and arrived via an Air Canada flight. Suspects allegedly used a fraudulent airway bill to load the shipment onto a five-tonne truck.
While charges were recently withdrawn against Ali Raza and Amit Jalota, other legal proceedings continue. Arsalan Chaudhary, who pleaded guilty, was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to pay $22 million in restitution. Another accused individual, Archit Grover, is expected to face trial later this fall.
