Parnaíba authorities prohibit vehicle access to Beira-Rio waterfront
The Military Police in Parnaíba, Brazil, have prohibited the entry of motor vehicles into the Beira-Rio area along the Igaraçu River in the Carmo neighborhood. The measure, effective as of Thursday, aims to combat noise pollution caused by vehicles with high-volume sound systems.
The decision follows a collaborative meeting involving the Military Police, the Military Fire Department, the Parnaíba City Hall, the Captaincy of the Ports, IBAMA, and ICMBio. Lieutenant Colonel Delgado, commander of the 2nd Military Police Battalion, stated the restriction is intended to restore public peace for families, fishermen, local merchants, and tourists.
Enforcement began with driver orientation and the installation of signaling cones to prevent vehicle access to the riverbank. The initiative seeks to ensure the area remains a tranquil space for community use and sports activities without noise interference.
