Parnamirim court convicts businessman and officials for administrative improbity

A court in Parnamirim has convicted businessman Mário Sérgio Macedo Lopes and several others for administrative improbity regarding irregular contracts signed by the Parnamirim City Hall between 2013 and 2015.

The investigation focused on ten contracts involving the acquisition of books, pedagogical projects, and uniforms. The court found that the defendants acted in a “coordinated and complementary” manner to bypass legal procedures and create a false appearance of legality.

As a result, Mário Sérgio, former mayor Maurício Marques dos Santos, and former education secretary Vandilma Maria de Oliveira were ordered to jointly reimburse R$ 624,680.70. This amount includes R$ 364,680.70 identified as overpricing in a uniform supply contract with Recifesilk Comércio e Serviços Ltda, and R$ 260,000 related to an illicit transfer from Pernambooks to Mário Sérgio. The ruling also mandates the addition of monetary correction and interest of 1% per month.
